Decorum Review
Writer jonathan hickman is all over the place these days.
Decorum review. Decorum is a unique mix of exposition via biotech adds and graphic narratives similar to your normal comic book. I couldn t find anything that fit the 1890s style but these dresses are all so pretty i don t even care. Mike huddleston s breathtaking art steals the show in jonathan hickman s latest offering.
First we have his retooling of the x men franchise that is going gangbusters over at marvel. Kaaren christopherson goodreads author 3 43 rating details 184 ratings 49 reviews. A purple ruffly dress a pale orange gown and a white long sleeved wedding dress with buttons all up the back.
There s story ideas character mystery and action in abundance. There is just so much going on in decorum 1 visually that it s difficult to break it down. The first issue sets up a lot of plot points and worldbuilding for the long game but it s mike huddleston s eclectic art that captivates the most.
The world building in decorum is largely confined to the prose pages and diagrams while the story pages show a world gradually being brought to startling visual life. Decorum 1 is a good not great comic but you re gonna have to work for it. I first read the book while semi drunk and didn t like it at all.
There is a triptych of gowns. However there s just a lot going on in this issue that sets it apart from other comics on the market. I read it again while distracted and a lot of the story went over my head.
The story is disjointed. Kaaren christopherson s brilliantly observed novel captures the glamour and grit of one of the world s most dazzling cities during one of its most tumultuous eras as seen through the eyes of a singularly captivating heroine. Jonathan hickman and epic science fiction comic books are a match made in heaven.
